How to create a strong password

In order to keep your online account safe, we recommend some tips to help you create a stronger password:

Use a long password with mixed numbers, letters and symbols.

You may be frustrated and worry about forgetting your passwords if they are too complicated to remember. But a strong and secure password will protect your account better.

Often, you can create a password based on something unique and memorable to you, such as a favourite place, person, or phrase.

A great alternative to using more personal passwords is to replace specific letters in sentences with numbers or symbols.

For example, the word "Password" contains "a" and "o" - these can be replaced with "8" and "0". Also, you can add # instead of "w". Using this method, "Password" becomes "P8ss#0rd".

To understand why a long and secure password is important, please read password cracking and time requires for brute-force attack.

Though, the cracking time will depend on the computing power. The stronger your password is, the more difficult for hackers to crack your password.

Try to use a phrase that only you know.

For example, "My friends Tom and Jasmine send me a funny email every day", and then use numbers and letters to recreate it. "MfT&Jsmafe1ad" is a password with many variants.

Use different passwords for each critical account, such as email accounts and online bank accounts.

It is not safe to use the same key to lock your house, car, and office. Similarly, it is not safe to use the same password for all your online accounts. If criminals know one access, they might be able to crack all online accounts.

Essential tips to avoid password lost

When setting a new password, we strongly recommend that you follow the tips below:

  • Write down or save the new password in a physical paper or digital document. Don't just rely on a password manager to keep it.

  • After entering the new password, click "Show" on the right side of the password field so that you can view the password to ensure your typing is correct.

  • If you want to copy and paste the password, make sure the entire password is copied and do not leave any extra spaces at the end of the phrase. Because copy/paste errors may occur, we do not recommend you copy and past when setting a password. Likewise, if you have a login issue, try entering your password instead of copying and pasting it.
